UPDATE: Second Suspect Arrested in Connection to Death Investigation in the Area of 344 Bowdoin Street, Dorchester


This morning, Monday, January 8, 2018, officers arrested a second suspect, 18-year-old Jawone Shepard of Roxbury, in relation to the shooting death of 17-year-old Phillip Demings of Weymouth on December 19, 2017. Shepard was arrested by virtue of a straight warrant out of Dorchester District Court for Murder and Unlawful Possession of a Firearm. One week earlier, on Tuesday, January 2, 2018, officers arrested Jawone's brother, 20-year-old Jaquan X. Shepard of Lynn, for Murder for his involvement in Mr. Demings' homicide. Jawone will be arraigned in Dorchester District Court.

The facts of the original incident are as follows:

At about 7:15 PM on Tuesday, December 19, 2017, officers from District C-11 (Dorchester) responded to a call for a person shot in the area of 344 Bowdoin Street. On arrival, officers located a male victim in his late teens suffering from apparent gunshot wounds. The victim, 17-year-old Phillip Demings of Weymouth, suffered from life-threatening injuries and was pronounced deceased at the scene.
