At about 7:15 PM on Tuesday, December 19, 2017, officers from District C-11 (Dorchester) responded to a call for a person shot in the area of 344 Bowdoin Street. On arrival, officers located a male victim in his late teens suffering from apparent gunshot wounds. The victim, 17-year-old Philip Demings of Weymouth suffered from life-threatening injuries and was pronounced deceased at the scene.
Today, Tuesday, January 2, 2018, after an extensive and ongoing investigation, officers arrested 20-year-old Jaquan X. Shepard of Lynn for Murder for his involvement in Mr. Demings' homicide. Shepard will be arraigned in Dorchester District Court.
Said Police Commissioner William Evans, “I commend the work that my homicide unit detectives continue to do. Their commitment to seeking justice for victims and families of homicide is admirable. As with every homicide investigation, they worked relentlessly to identify and apprehend the suspect in this case. While I hope that news of this arrest brings some comfort to the family of the victim, it should also send a message that the BPD is committed to solving every single homicide and holding the perpetrators accountable.”
