Officers on patrol made observations of a vehicle traveling inbound on Blue Hill Avenue with an expired registration. A subsequent check with the Registry of Motor Vehicles confirmed their observations and the vehicle was pulled over. The operator, Alex Cherizard, 34 of Boston, was informed of the violation and that the vehicle was going to be towed for being unregistered.

The officers were conducting an inventory search of the vehicle prior to being towed and discovered a 9MM semi-automatic handgun loaded with 10 rounds of ammunition inside the glove compartment. The gun was immediately secured and Cherizard was taken into custody without incident. The vehicle was subsequently towed. Cherizard was charged with Unlawful Possession of a Firearm, 2nd Subsequent Offense, Unlawful Possession of Ammunition, Carrying Loaded Firearm without a License, Operating Unregistered Motor Vehicle and Armed Career Criminal Level II. He will be arraigned today in Roxbury District Court.
