INCIDENT #1: At about 11:35 AM on Saturday, September 2, 2017, officers from District B-2 (Roxbury) responded to a radio call for shots fired in the area of 200 Martin Luther King Boulevard.
Upon arrival, officers located ballistics and processed the scene. Officers canvassed the area and observed three males walking in the area of Walnut Avenue and Holworthy Street. Officers observed that the males were walking at a hurried pace, sweating profusely, and breathing heavily. As officers approached, two of the males broke off and began to run. Officers pursued the two males, who split up as they fled. The first male fled on Walnut toward Harishoff. As the male fled past a vehicle with an open door, the officer in pursuit observed him reach into his waistband, pull out a firearm, and throw it toward the open door. When the witness standing by the door picked up the firearm, the officer discontinued the pursuit and recovered the loaded Taurus Millenium 9mm firearm. The suspect made good his escape. Meanwhile, the second male was apprehended after a short foot pursuit. A frisk of the second suspect revealed a loaded MOD RG13 .22 caliber firearm in his pocket. Officers arrested the 16-year-old juvenile from Brockton and charged him with Delinquent to wit; Unlawful Possession of a Firearm, Unlawful Possession of Ammunition, Unlawfully Carrying a Loaded Firearm, and Resisting Arrest.
INCIDENT #2: At about 12:54 AM on Monday, September 4, 2017, officers from District B-3 (Mattapan) responded to a call for a person with a gun in the area of Blue Hill Avenue and Columbia Road. Officers were provided with a vehicle description and plate number of the suspect vehicle. As they approached Washington Street and Columbia Road, they observed the suspect vehicle stopped at the red light on Columbia Road. Officers made a stop of the vehicle and its two occupants at the intersection. As a result of the stop and the ensuing investigation, officers learned that the operator had brandished a firearm at the victim. Officers located a loaded Kimber Pro Raptor II .45 caliber firearm reported lost out of Braintree inside the car. Officers arrested the operator, 19-year-old Betson Tavares-Depina of Dorchester, and charged him with Assault by Means of a Dangerous Weapon (Gun), Unlawful Possession of a Firearm, Unlawful Possession of Ammunition, and Unlawfully Carrying a Loaded Firearm. The passenger, 22-year-old Kurvan Vidal of Dorchester, was arrested and charged with Unlawful Possession of a Firearm, Unlawful Possession of Ammunition, and Unlawfully Carrying a Loaded Firearm. Vidal was also found to have an active default warrant for his arrest.
