INCIDENT #1: At about 2:20 PM on Monday, September 11, 2017, members of the Youth Violence Strike Force were on patrol in the area of Dudley Street and East Cottage Street in District B-2 (Roxbury), when they observed several males known to officers near Backwoods Pizza. Upon observing the officers, the males entered the pizza shop. A moment later, one of the males exited wearing his hood over his head in 79-degree weather and avoiding eye contact with the officers. Officers maintained surveillance and after a short distance, the male grabbed his waistband and quickened his pace. At this point officers attempted to stop the male. A short foot pursuit ensued, during which the male ignored officers’ commands to show his hands and stop. Officers were finally able to apprehend the male at which time a pat frisk revealed a loaded Glock 27 .40 caliber firearm in the male’s waistband. Officers arrested 25-year-old Joao Fernandes of Roxbury and charged him with Unlawful Possession of a Firearm, Unlawful Possession of Ammunition, Unlawfully Carrying a Loaded Firearm, and Unlawful Possession of a High Capacity Feeding Device.

INCIDENT #2: At about 9:30 PM on September 11, 2017, members of the YVSF observed a group smoking and drinking on the sidewalk around a parked car with its driver’s side doors ajar in the area of 73 Charles Street in District C-11 (Dorchester). The officers observed a female sitting in the vehicle’s driver’s seat and a male sitting in the passenger seat behind her. Upon approach, an officer observed an item passed between the male and the female. When the officer inquired about the exchange, the female told the officer she gave him a cigarette. Not seeing a cigarette in the male’s possession, the officers conducted a pat frisk of the passenger area of the vehicle. Officers immediately located a loaded silver Jennings J-22 pistol under the driver’s seat. Officers arrested the 28-year-old year old female, identified as Gabriella Pachman of South Weymouth, and the 16-year-old juvenile male from Dorchester and charged them with Unlawful Possession of a Firearm, Unlawful Possession of Ammunition, and Unlawfully Carrying a Loaded Firearm.
