WHO: Boston Police Officers Kevin Rowley and Sean O'Connor
WHAT: At about 2:10 AM on Thursday, May 11, 2017, two officers assigned to District E-13 (Jamaica Plain) helped a mother deliver her baby near the Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston. The officers were in the area when they were flagged down by a man standing next to a motor vehicle screaming for help. The officers ran to the car where they observed a woman in the passenger seat birthing a child. One officer immediately began to assist with the child birth while the second officer ran to the nearby Emergency Room to alert the medical staff and grab supplies. The newborn baby arrived quickly but was quiet and appeared to be slightly blue. The officer was able to clear the baby’s face, nose and mouth, stimulating the baby to breathe. At this time, the baby girl let out a strong cry and was quickly wrapped and swaddled in blankets that the second officer had provided. Medical staff quickly arrived on scene and took charge of the new born and the very relieved and grateful mother and father. Later in the evening, the officers received word from the Labor and Delivery Staff of the hospital that both mother and child were doing well.
