Daily Dose of Great Police Work: Motor Vehicle Stop Enables Police to Arrest One and Recover a Gun in the area of 8 Drummond St.

At about 1:12 AM, Friday, January 10, 2014, officers from District C-11 (Dorchester) made an on-site arrest in the area of 8 Drummond Street in Dorchester.

While on patrol, officers observed a motor vehicle driving with its lights off. Officers activated their lights and sirens in an attempt to conduct a traffic stop in the area of Blue Hill Ave and Calder St. Initially, the vehicle pulled to the side of the road but, after a few seconds, immediately drove off at a high rate of speed. After a brief pursuit, officers were able to stop the suspect's car after the vehicle was forced to come to a stop because of a marked police cruiser blocking its passage.

As officers approached the vehicle, the operator of the vehicle initially refused to acknowledge officer's verbal commands to exit the car, but as officers attempted to gain entry, the operator complied.

A search of the area enabled officers to locate a firearm.

Arrested was Lorenzo Beechman, 27, of Roxbury. Beechman is charged with Unlawful Possession of a Firearm, Dangerous Weapon Unlawfully Carried, Unlawful Possession of Ammunition and Failure to stop for a Police Officer.
