At about 1:15 AM on Friday, August 11, 2017, officers from District B-3 (Mattapan) made observations of a car operating without headlights in the area of 800 Morton Street. Officers followed the vehicle for a short period before the officers observed the vehicle slow on Frontenac Street and a male jumped out of the rear passenger side door. The male fled on foot toward Blue Hill Ave, while the vehicle sped away up Frontenac Street. The officers and additional responding units set up a perimeter and canvassed for the male on foot. Although he made good his escape, an officer discovered a backpack left on the sidewalk in the direct flight path of the male. Inside the abandoned bag, officers recovered a loaded High Standard Supermatic .22 long rifle Model #107 Military along with a loaded magazine. The firearm was seized and processed. Further investigation revealed the firearm was reported stolen out of Brockton in 1981. The incident remains under investigation.
